ellen-adonf.com was
setup in 2005 for supporters and fans of Yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur. The site was launched during Ellen's
solo, non-stop around the world on a multihull challenge, where people from all over the Globe excitedly
gathered together through Ellen MacArthur's official
website. Here they were able to follow Ellen MacArthur's adventure hour by hour, share the thrills &
spills and support Ellen on her awesome adventure by email.
The main aim of ellen-adonf.com is to offer supporters and
fans of Ellen MacArthur, a friendly place to visit, where they can share their own 'Ellen stories' and
photos with other supporters...
...You will find news, some interesting
stories including Ellen's arrival back to Cowes, in the Isle of Wight and some amusing tails about
(and even written by) Ellen's fury friend, Slinky!
Other, more important, aims of the Ellen MacArthur Supporters Website
are...
...to help make people aware of Ellen's Trust, 'The Ellen MacArthur Trust'. This Trust takes young people aged between 8-18
sailing to help them regain their confidence on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious
illness. You will find articles and photos about Ellen's Trust and you can even buy an
ellen àdonf Trust Wristband in support...
...another very important charity is Sailability, Sailability was set up by the Royal Yachting Association to enable disabled people to sail. Sussex
Yacht club in Shoreham-by-Sea, has set up a local branch called, 'Sussex Sailability' and as a member,
I know firsthand what an amazing difference this charity can make to a disabled persons
life.
Sussex Sailability ran sixteen sessions for disabled people
last year, as well as a Sailing week where tuition was given to club members. In addition the Sonars sailed
independently for 30 days including local races and competing in Cowes Week. They have volunteers to help
rig, launch, recover, wash and put away the boats and also to assist the less proficient on the water (More
volunteers are always welcome!). They ran inshore and cruising sessions for a total of 90 disabled
people.
The site also includes a useful links page, video and photo galleries. During Ellen's challenge,
supporters were able to email Ellen via her team website, these emails were displayed on the site for all
Ellen's supporters to see. I wanted to send her pictures so I designed some 'text-art', that could be
emailed and displayed on her site. All the 'text-art' emails I sent to Ellen can be viewed in the
Text-Art gallery...
...so if your at a bit of a loss between Ellen's record
attempts...come on and have a browse through the Ellen MacArthur Supporters
website!
